Arrive at Dutch Square, where you can take photos of the distinctive red buildings from the Dutch colonial era, such as the Stadthuys, Christ Church, and the Queen Victoria Fountain. The Stadthuys houses several museums that showcase Melaka's history and heritage, while Christ Church is the oldest functioning Protestant church in Malaysia. The Queen Victoria Fountain was erected in 1904 to commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee.
Visit A'Famosa Fort, a historical landmark built by the Portuguese in 1511. It is one of the oldest surviving European structures in Asia. Although only a small gate remains today after it was partially destroyed by the British in 1807, it offers a glimpse into Melaka’s colonial past.
Climb up St Paul’s Hill to visit the ruins of St Paul’s Church, built by the Portuguese in 1521 and later used by the Dutch and British. Originally dedicated to Our Lady of The Hill, it was renamed St Paul’s Church by the Dutch. Inside, you can see tombstones with Portuguese and Dutch inscriptions and a statue of St Francis Xavier, who preached here in 1545.
Admire Cheng Hoon Teng Temple, the oldest functioning Chinese temple in Malaysia, dating back to 1646. Learn about its history and architecture. The temple is dedicated to the Goddess of Mercy, Guanyin, and features altars for other Chinese deities. The intricate carvings, paintings, and lanterns showcase fine Chinese craftsmanship.
Explore the Baba Nyonya Heritage Museum to learn about the Peranakan community, a unique fusion of Chinese and Malay influences. The museum is housed in a traditional Peranakan house that belonged to a wealthy family in the 19th century. Discover their customs, traditions, and rituals, and explore their furniture, clothing, jewelry, and cuisine.
Stroll through Jonker Street, famous for its night market, street art, and various shops and eateries. The night market is open on weekends from 6 pm to midnight, offering souvenirs, antiques, clothes, and street food. Enjoy the colorful and creative street art depicting scenes from Melaka's history and culture.
Enjoy a scenic boat ride along the Malacca River, which passes by many attractions and landmarks. The 45-minute cruise offers views of Dutch Square, A'Famosa Fort, St Paul’s Church, Cheng Hoon Teng Temple, and Jonker Street from a different perspective. Admire the murals and sculptures along the riverbanks and the beautiful bridges crossing the river. (Entry tickets at additional cost)
